# Privacy information

**Last updated: September 2026**

The UK Trade Website Planner is designed to be private by default.

## What this tool collects

Nothing. The application:

- has no account or login,
- has no database or server,
- runs no analytics or tracking scripts,
- makes no third-party API calls,
- contains no form submission,
- places no answers in the page URL,
- makes no network requests that transmit your answers.

Everything runs locally in your own browser.

## What is stored, and where

Your answers are stored only in your browser's `localStorage`, on the device
you are using, under a single key. They never leave your device.

What this means in practice:

- **Someone using the same browser profile may see the saved plan.** If you
share a computer or phone profile, consider deleting your plan when you
are finished (use the "Delete my saved plan" button on your results page).
- **Clearing your browser data may remove the plan.** If you clear site data
or cookies, your saved plan is deleted along with it. Download or print
your brief if you want to keep a copy.
- **Saving can be unavailable.** If your browser blocks local storage (for
example, some private-browsing modes), the tool still works, but your plan
will not be kept when the page is closed.

## What you should not enter

The planner does not need, and you should not enter:

- customer names or addresses,
- telephone numbers or email addresses,
- confidential job information,
- anything else that could identify another person.

You can plan quotation forms and contact routes without supplying the actual
details.

## GitHub Pages and hosting

If the tool is hosted on GitHub Pages, the page files themselves are served
to your browser — but your answers are never sent back to GitHub or anyone
else. There is no server-side code in this project.

## Changes

If this project ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated
and the change will be described in the project's release notes. The
application's promise — "Your answers stay on this device" — is treated as a
core requirement, not an optional extra.

## Questions

This is an open-source project. Questions and concerns can be raised on the
[GitHub repository](https://github.com/Websites-for-Tradespeople/uk-trade-website-planner).
